Ontario's Electricity Supply Mix
The system-wide supply mix is the combination of power sources used to generate the electricity consumed in Ontario.
As a regulated distributor of electricity in Ontario, and like all other local distribution companies, Alectra Utilities is required by law (under Ontario Reg. 416/99) to disclose to our consumers information regarding the Ontario system-wide electricity supply mix. The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) directive requires that this information is distributed annually. Under the same regulation, the Ministry of Energy is responsible for providing Ontario’s electricity supply mix data to electricity distributors.
The table below discloses the system-wide electricity supply mix data for 2017, which was published by the OEB on October 5, 2018.
|Electricity Sources||Ontario's Electricity Mix*|
|Alternative power sources||9.5%|
|*Includes both transmission and distribution-connected/embedded generation|
|**Includes duel-fuelled facilities that are predominantly natural gas (e.g. Lennox Generating Station)|
|Note: Figures may not add to 100% due to rounding.|
