Hydro One Brampton Warns Customers of Recent Phone Scams
Hydro One Brampton’s business and residential customers have been targeted recently by fraudulent callers identifying themselves as Hydro One Brampton employees - and threatening disconnection of their electrical service if payment is not received immediately.
The payment method requested through these phone scams often directs the ‘payee’ to purchase a PayPower card at a local gas station or convenience store to be used as payment, and to call back with a verification number within two hours of the initial call. Hydro One Brampton does not collect payment using this method.
Even if a customer is in arrears on their hydro account, Hydro One Brampton NEVER asks for a credit card, PayPower card, or any other banking information over the phone, and provides ample opportunity for customers with overdue bill amounts to make payments before disconnecting them.
Hydro One Brampton advises customers not to share or provide any personal, utility account, or financial information to anyone who calls or comes to your door claiming to be a representative from Hydro One Brampton. If you receive a suspicious call or visit, contact Customer Accounts department at (905) 840-6300 x.7300, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30 am-4:30 pm to report the incident.
